Quote of the week: “Money often costs too much.” —Ralph Waldo Emerson

Song of the week: “Thank God I Made It” —BENNY THE BUTCHER feat. Queen Naija I don’t own the rights to this song.

Sigh. Life is so complicated. I often ask God—”what more do you want from me? What else do you have for me to do?” Every time I feel like I’ve done enough to gain his favor, he throws another obstacle in my path.

These past couple of months have been trying. I’m staying positive but, it has effected my creativity. I find myself trying NOT to think theses days, and my head is where I find all my inspiration. I have found myself now fighting about the injustices here and outside. I use my art as stress management. What am I to do when my art has been the cause of stress, as of late?

I am currently working on a large piece that was inspired by my fellowship with PeoplesHub. Talking with Joe and Dustin has had me thinking about my past and where I came from. (#ImSoSt.Clair)

It’s also inspired by the closed minded, racist, and homophobic staff here at SCI-CBS. See, the powers that be in this institution seem to think that black people are of the same mind. Like, we’re programmed to be mindless and aggressive non-human beings. They believe we have limited intelligence and the only way for us to be, or act, civilized is for them to do all the thinking for us.

Now, If you’re reading this and you know me…, you know I’m not letting that shit fly. Not for however long I’m breathing.

Quick example: They went as far as to fire a friend of mine from the Law Library, who happens to be white. They thought she was the reason why grievances were being written properly.

She was told, “We have to let you go. You do you’re job too well.”

Wait what? What the hell does that mean? As if it’s to say, the white girl is the reason we’re “writing so well.” I swear I cannot make this shit up!

So, the grand scheme of things is to put someone who doesn’t know a damn thing about the law, or working in the “Law Library” in her place.

To slow the flow of information, from policy that contradicts what is being said and carried out by the administration.

The AUDACITY of their ignorance, insults our intelligence. On the other hand, I want them to continue sleeping. That way they won’t see us coming. We will bring change to this institution with or without their resignation.

OK, I’m sorry. I get distracted when I start talking about the PA Department of Corruption. Where was I? Oh, my latest work. It’s the biggest I’ve done in the shortest time frame. It’s also an ode to #1100 Cresswell St. A place where I learned how to fight for everything in life. Shout out to all my people who made it out the projects and into a better life. No matter how you got it done. Know this, a rich man wouldn’t be rich if he ain’t get a lil blood on his hands. And that’s FACTS!

Till next week, I’ll be praying for us all. Please listen to the lyrics to the song of the week. Hopefully it inspires you too.
